One of hubby’s favorite jokes:
You know what I want them to say at my funeral?
LOOK! He’s moving!
Yuk yuk yuk.
My grandmother is visiting me for a week and I’m taking her to her various doctor’s appointments so they can check that her cancer has not returned. She’ll also be visiting her sister-in-law, who was recently widowed.
“It was the sweetest funeral,” she has told me 15 times. “I need a copy of it.”
By this she means the strange west Texas custom of video-taping funerals and making taped copies of it for whomever wants it.
Add this to the ever-growing list of things I simply will never understand about my relatives.
That anyone would want to sit around and re-watch videos of a loved one’s funeral (she has a copy of my grandfather’s funeral, too) amazes me. It’s right up there with the pictures of my great-grandparents in their caskets.
If she gets a copy of Uncle Jim’s funeral service and wants to watch here, I may have to tell her our DVD player is broken.

Nice new look. I like it.
I went to my grandfather’s funeral. My father’s family can really only be described as poor white trash. Dad was the first to graduate from college, and pulled himself out of there as fast as he could. The family ALWAYS reminded him that he could have joined his uncle’s Buick dealership.
At my grandfather’s funeral, they took a polaroid of him in the casket. So we would have a remembrance.
And I almost died.

Thats strange, but I guess its some way of holding on to a memory, a person that once was. Though I have never heard of this before, each to there own I guess.

That is crazy. I heard of someone doing that here for someone famous, and I thought that was weird but slightly less just because people are weird when it comes to celebrities anyway. But there is no way I would be watching any funerals on video!!
